MEDICATION REFILL REQUESTS

• Please let me know on the portal if you need a refill. I will not refill a request only from a Pharmacy. 
  
• Pharmacies generate refill requests and sometimes patients do not need the refill. 
• I have to charge for my time reviewing and documenting and sending refills, and I do not want to charge you unnecessarily. 
• Refills require a visit within 3 - 6 monhts depending on the medication and stability of the symptoms.

Charges for Controlled Substance Refills (Testosterone, Ambien, Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin, Adderall) - $65 

In addition to requirements for logging on to two places to verify controlled rxes, I also have to input all of your personal data into a CURES database for the DEA and Medical Board, generate and review the report, copy the report, and file it in your chart. Sadly, this is a very time-consuming activity, and takes me close to 15 minutes to complete. 

 

Routine Prescription Refills between appointments are $35 due to the time required for dose verification, documentation, and creating and sending the fax. Please try to get refills at your appointments!

NOTE: Questions about new issues, ordering or interpreting lab tests, supplement changes, prescription refills, etc are best addressed during an appointment.

1. Good Medicine cannot be practiced thoughtfully via the Portal. Your cooperation with this is much appreciated! 
2. Just send a portal message if you would like to schedule a brief appointment for these types of issues.
3. If I do these things between visits, the fee will be based on a pro-rated amount of my hourly fee of $500. Sometimes we can cover things more quickly in an appointment.

ROUTINE PORTAL MESSAGING FEES and POLICIES

• There is generally no fee for Portal Messages that can be answered by the Patient Coordinator. We want to be able to give you support for your general questions and clarifications.
•  All Portal messages requiring MD input, other than simple questions that do not involve opening your chart, will incur a minimum $35 basic fee, and clinical issues requiring medical decision-making will be billed for the amount of time needed for chart review and answering. 
• A receipt will be added to your portal when this is necessary.
• If your questions are lengthy or involve clinical decision making, please schedule an appointment or request a brief phone appointment by writing on the portal.
• We endeavor to respond to Portal messages within 2 to 3 work days. Portal messages are generally not monitored on the weekends. Please do not use the portal for emergencies. (For true emergencies, call 911. For other urgent situations that need immediate medical assistance, plesae call your PCP as I am not on-call 24/7. You can also reach my cell at (925) 699-9558.)
